DOVE GIRLZ

6 women with different perspectives (ME, Bronwen, Natalie, Helen, Jordana, Kali) - 1 Dove campaign for REAL beauty…

Click on these ladies names for more insight on Dove's Camapign for Real Beauty

Marilyn Monroe is MY definition of real beauty. But that is in my eyes.
Marilyn Monroe, it doesn’t get any more stunning than that.

Others think that Queen Latifa is the definition of real beauty.

Some women think that Michelle Obama embodies beauty and intelligence.

The Dove campaign for real beauty reminds us of this. We are all beautiful in our own ways. Some may think that Michelle Obama is beautiful for her grace and good looks but that is not the same for everyone else.

This should be the same when we think about ourselves.

This campaign reached many people because of the realness of it all. Young women are self conscious and self-aware. Constantly comparing and judging themselves and their appearances.

This campaign’s hook is that it is something new, real, and has human interest.

A Facebook site is used in their social media campaign. It was difficult to find the page made by Dove because there are a plethora of fan pages and group pages dedicated to the campaign made by people other than Dove.

In the end I found the official Dove page on Facebook. It seemed pretty boring; all the same things found on their website could be found on the Facebook page.

There were a lot of complaints posted on the pages wall about products being discontinued. Not a lot of focus was on the campaign for real beauty. It was disappointing.

It seems as though Dove has not come up with any new promotions or ideas to keep this campaign thriving.

Their presence on Facebook is weak and not influential or impactful.

I use Dove products, I loved their video about the airbrushing and magazine covers. It would be nice to see them continue with this great campaign with more innovative ideas.

  1. While the Dove Campaign for real beauty is awesome, and does a lot to help girls focus on finding their real beauty, I just wondered if you know that Axe and Dove are owned by the same company, Unilever, who also own Fair and Lovely, a brand of skin bleachers in Asia and Africa that uses advertising openly saying you can't be successful unless your skin is fair. (check it out on Youtube! - it's crazy!)

  3. Yeah, since Dove is a conglomerate of Unilever, there have been quite a few criticisms of their Campaign for Real Beauty. I remember that Oprah did a show on it, and she seemed to love their idea.

Also, did you watch Ellen's commercial for Cover Girl, where she says "Inner beauty is important, but not nearly as important as outer beauty." I'm sure it's a joke, but it came around the time Dove's Campaign was garnering lots of media attention.
